Local Food Expert Returns to NB to Deconstruct our Dinner

Posted January 27th, 2011

Jon Steinman, the creator of Deconstructing Dinner, a nationally syndicated radio show addressing local food issues, will bring his message to the Dieppe Market on Tuesday, February 1st 2011 at 6 to 8 pm. Jon’s talk will focus on the challenges of creating and maintaining responsible food systems in a world of industrial food systems. This presentation will bring examples of local food initiatives from around the country that are community-driven and outside of the industrial food system ‘box’.

The relevance of this food discussion is underscored by rising prices of staples like wheat, rice and corn by more than 50% in the last six months, which is causing havoc in countries around the world. Closer to home, it will help us examine our own food systems and how we can work together to increase food security, local production and local food on our dinner plates.

The talk, entitled “Protecting the Responsible Food Movement from the Industrial Food System ‘Box’” is intended for a general audience and producers, restaurant owners, NGO’s and others involved in local food issues are encouraged to attend to network and join a broader discussion on food issues in the region.

Admission is by voluntary donation.

The UNESCO Fundy Biosphere Reserve, Post Carbon Great Moncton, NB Food Security Network, ACORN, Really Local Harvest Coop and the Conservation Council are the sponsors of this event.
