Pangburn and Melvin Beach and Cliffs

Coordinates: Lat 45.396630° N, Long 65.452979° W

picture Description: A beautiful, large cobblestone beach complex flanked by and interspersed with high, rocky cliffs; the dominant view line mostly goes east along the bay from the beach entrance.

Nature Notes: Along with several other cobble beaches along the northern Fundy shore, the rocks here are mostly a very attractively patterned, dense quartzite, a metamorphic stone. These types of stones are often used as “heating stones”, such as those used frequently in massage therapy. Many of them can be safely heated in a microwave oven and release their heat slowly.
